Who

Korea Telecom (KT) is South Korea’s largest telecommunication service provider with over 40 million users. With deep wired and wireless expertise, KT has tremendous strength in fiber optics, digital multimedia services and both wired and wireless broadband services.

Problem

Servicing over 40 million subscribers including wired phone users as well as mobile/cellular phone users, KT identified a critical need for a more robust platform for its Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) services. The company’s legacy database could not handle the growing demands for its high speed AAA requirements.

Due to the increase in its expanding wireless internet services including wireless broadband, WiMAX and Wi-Fi, KT was falling short of capitalizing on its core services because of inadequate AAA database.

The legacy database simply could not process a rapidly rising number of transactions requiring real time speed while maintaining data integrity at all times.

KT found itself wasting precious human capital by having to manually ascertain which users were attempting to access specific services.

KT’s database could not keep up with the added strains and related demands.

KT was further undermined by the expansion of widespread growth in IP-based devices and mobility.

Solution

KT decided to implement Altibase as the core database for its AAA service in 2014. Altibase has enabled KT to eliminate the need for any manual analysis to identify where and when system resources were needed.
