Altibase Demonstrates Global Competitiveness Through Vietnam National Infrastructure Project

HANOI, Vietnam Altibase, a leading enterprise database provider from South Korea, has successfully demonstrated its global competitiveness and technological reliability through a large-scale national infrastructure project in Vietnam. The company announced that, in collaboration with its local partner ETC Vietnam, it has delivered the core database system for Vietnam’s Highway Toll Management System, which operates under the Ministry of Construction. Altibase has been officially selected as the primary DBMS for this mission-critical national platform.

The project is part of the Vietnamese government’s broader initiative to integrate toll collection and management across major segments of the North–South Expressway. Recently, toll policies were finalized for five key sections—Mai Son–National Highway 45, National Highway 45–Nghi Son, Nghi Son–Dien Chau, Vinh Hao–Phan Thiet, and Phan Thiet–Dau Giay—signaling the transition to full-scale operations. Under the new policy framework, toll rates are dynamically determined based on vehicle type and travel distance. For instance, on the approximately 99 km Phan Thiet–Dau Giay section, toll fees vary significantly between heavy trucks and passenger vehicles, with an average pricing range of approximately 900 to 1,300 VND per kilometer. These highways are expected to operate as toll roads for around seven years, with the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system being fully deployed following pilot operations. The system has also been designed to allow real-time policy updates without service interruption, enabling immediate response to future regulatory changes.
During the performance validation process, Altibase recorded more than twice the processing performance compared to conventional commercial DBMS solutions, leading to its final selection. The system consistently maintains stable and high-performance processing even under peak traffic conditions, where vehicle volumes increase significantly. This level of reliability is essential for a national infrastructure system that must operate continuously, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without downtime. Beyond simple toll collection, the platform serves as a central data hub for national transportation operations, requiring real-time data collection and processing across multiple highway segments, as well as the ability to handle heavy transaction loads during peak hours while maintaining uninterrupted service.
Altibase’s Hybrid DBMS architecture played a key role in meeting these requirements. By combining in-memory processing with disk-based storage within a single engine, the system is able to support both real-time transaction processing and large-scale historical data management simultaneously. This architecture also enables immediate application of policy changes without requiring system downtime. In addition, its high compatibility with standard SQL significantly simplified integration with existing systems, reducing the need for application modifications and making it well-suited for long-term operational environments. These factors were considered to align closely with the Vietnamese government’s requirements for high performance, stability, and cost efficiency.
The project was executed locally by ETC Vietnam, which led system integration and operations based on its extensive experience in transportation and public IT sectors. Altibase contributed by providing the DBMS platform and technical support, resulting in a successful collaboration that combined global database technology with strong local execution capabilities.
This project is particularly significant as it represents Altibase’s first direct entry into Vietnam’s public sector market. Building on this achievement, the company is actively expanding its presence in Vietnam’s public and infrastructure sectors and is currently conducting additional proof-of-concept projects with government agencies and public institutions. These efforts are expected to increase the likelihood of securing follow-up projects and to further strengthen Altibase’s market position in the region.
